Robin is a social AI-powered robot and comes from the field of learning robots. Robin is particularly impressive with its gestural and facial expression capabilities. The model is already being used in South Korean kindergartens to expose children to artificial intelligence and the latest technologies as early as possible. Interaction with Robin takes place both with the robot itself and with the accessible programming interface, which is suitable for children. This allows users to complete tasks together with the robot.
But what kind of artificial intelligence is in the robot and what information does it convey? Media artist and programmer Benita Martis is exploring Robin and the technology behind it in her diploma project at the Academy of Media Arts (KHM). She takes a critical look at the use of AI based on the dynamics of the internet. To this end, she uses an echo chamber from social networks as an example to transfer it into the existing robot system and ultimately reveal the dangers.
The workshop will discuss how individual autonomy and opinion formation can be restricted by technical systems. Benita Martis will present her diploma thesis and together we can develop ideas for workshops with Robin or on the topic of how useful AI is as a playmate and learning aid.
